What is the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ)?

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) is a registered non-profit making organisation. It is the only consumer watchdog in the country and has a mandate to ensure that consumers are protected and educated on their rights and other consumer issues affecting them.

 
What does CCZ not do?

CCZ does not control or set prices as assumed by many consumers. The organisation can only monitor prices and input on the consumer perspective of the prices.

 
Does CCZ deal with specific or individual problems?

CCZ does deal with individual problems. It acts as an arbitrator in consumer disputes with either products or service suppliers. Through the complaints handling departments at the CCZ offices, the organisation has assisted many individual consumers get redress.

 
What happens after a complaint is made to CCZ?

Who can join CCZ?

Anyone and everyone can join CCZ. Membership is open to individuals and even companies.

 
Why should I become a member of CCZ?

Through your membership, you become part of the consumer movement in the country and not only assist yourself with being equipped for the marketplace but you also assist several consumers by being a voice for them

 
Does that mean if I’m not a member I do not benefit from CCZ?

Certainly not, whether you are a member or not you can still get assistance from CCZ.

 
How does the CCZ respond to information requests by consumers?

The organisation responds to information requests made by the consumers through conducting researches on the topic required by the consumer. Upon completion of the research the information will be sent directly to the consumer who would have requested it. The turn-around period varies with the type of request made and how readily accessible the information.

 
How is the CCZ funded?

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe is funded through a government grant awarded to it annually by the government through the Ministry of Industry and International Trade.
