Family Basket

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe as the sole consumer watchdog in the country, has the mandate to make sure that consumer rights are upheld and that consumers are educated of their rights and responsibilities.

In line with our mandate we monitor the livelihood of consumers’ vis-à-vis the cost of living through a low-income earner monthly budget for a family of six. The budget, which is affectionately known by many as the Family Basket has become an important economic tool used by many stakeholders for planning, budgeting and collective bargaining. The budget gives an on the ground account of the cost of living, by taking into account the current monthly costs of living for an average family of six.

Because it is such an important national economic tool, especially in the awarding of salaries and measuring the vulnerability of the urban low income earner, the CCZ would like to extend an invitation to you and your organisation to easily access it.

You may get the basket on a monthly basis if you are a subscribed.  The basket can either be purchased monthly at any of our offices or you may pay an annual subscription fee and it will be delivered or emailed to you directly.

If interested in this arrangement, please email the Public Relations Department on the email below to get fuller details prdept@ccz.org.zw

Through the family basket, organisations and individuals can get a realistic picture of the cost of living in the country for any low income earner in the urban areas.
